[War of Resistance] [Sichuan Army] [Military Campaigns] [Fighting the Japanese] [Transmigration]
This book is dedicated to my grandfather, a hero of the War of Resistance, and the three million soldiers of the Sichuan Army!
After attending his grandfather’s funeral, Wang Xiaozhi was sorting through his belongings when he touched a bloodstained medal. In an instant, he transmigrated back to the battlefield of 1937.
Before him stood his young, roguish grandfather, Zou Huiwu, alive and well.
Chewing on a blade of grass, he pointed his gun at Wang Xiaozhi. “You little punk, soft-skinned and tender. You look like a spy!”
Wang Xiaozhi became the most “cowardly” recruit under his command. He knew how to kill, and he knew how every one of his grandfather’s battles would end.
In the bloody Battle of Shanghai, Wang Xiaozhi risked everything to drag his young grandfather out of a pile of corpses. In the street fighting at Teng County, he roared as he changed the course of his grandfather’s doomed battle.
His grandfather would always tell his comrades, “When the war’s over, I’m taking you all back to Sichuan for hot pot, then we’ll each have a whole litter of kids!”
Wang Xiaozhi’s eyes reddened, but he didn’t dare say it aloud: his comrades’ futures had already been set in stone beneath that banner bearing the word “Remember.”
In the final battle, as a shell came hurtling toward them, Wang Xiaozhi threw himself over his young grandfather. He died for his country in 1945.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back in 2023, the medal burning hot in his hand.
But this time, his battlefield wasn’t the War of Resistance. He would use his memories to bring his comrades home.
Guided by his memories, he would seek out the three million souls of the Sichuan Army who, like him, had been buried far from home.
Standing before his grandfather’s new grave, he said solemnly, “This time, I’m bringing every one of them home.”
Very real and objective.
