In an absurd and brutal apocalypse, sixteen primordial gods descend and divide the world. Humanity is forced to take part in the “Faith Game,” facing a six-player trial every seven days. Those who clear it receive resources bestowed by the gods; those who fail may lose all their cultivation or die. Players must choose a god to follow on their “Path of Destiny,” then select one of six classes, creating a system of ninety-six possible classes amid fierce factional conflict. The protagonist, Chen Qing, initially follows the God of Fate, but later switches allegiance to the God of Deception and becomes a clown priest. Betraying Fate leaves him with terrible luck, but grants him the ability “When a lie seems true, the truth becomes a lie.”
In each trial dungeon, Chen Qing uses this ability and his wits to survive. In the “Death Trial,” he narrowly makes it through with a “suicidal performance art show”; in the Yongzhen Town trial, he exposes the truth by faking a pregnancy. Yet he faces impossible tasks, a vast gap in strength, and dwindling time. He is torn between gathering resources and holding to his principles, while the exposure of his hidden dual identity would bring the gods’ pursuit. His terrible luck and the absurd, brutal world also hinder his growth. Every success comes at a heavy cost, and his lies cause misunderstandings among his teammates. But Chen Qing grows through his clashes with all kinds of people, gradually uncovering the world’s illusions. In the end, he rises from a player struggling to survive in the cracks to someone who can turn the gods’ game on its head, suppress the gods, usher in the “Clown Era,” and complete his ultimate rebellion against their cruel farce.
No one has reviewed it, but I feel like this book is, well, how should I put it? I feel like I can't stand it, like a fan, but not like it
