Fu Qinzhi and Huo Fengyan are modern readers well versed in Lovecraftian lore who transmigrate to a near-future world in another realm. A car accident shatters the peace. Fu Qinzhi wakes up in a hospital, where everyone insists he never left home, but a dead person’s eerie recording points to him. When the midnight bells ring, he returns to the moment of the accident. The police treat him as the culprit, while the homeless man who is the only witness has a baffling alibi. As the loops multiply, Fu Qinzhi discovers that his memories have been tampered with. The “nonexistent” witness writes a number in blood, the same one Fu Qinzhi sees in his dreams. Within 24 hours, he and Huo Fengyan must draw on their knowledge of Lovecraftian lore to break through the fog of altered memories and fight the ignorance of this other world and the forces of the Lovecraftian entities. They must prove their innocence or remain trapped forever in a death loop. Throughout it all, they must also resist the erosion of their minds by forbidden knowledge, struggling to choose between reason and the truth.
