The Survivor as the Gears Turn After the Nuclear Blast

The world after the nuclear blasts was blanketed in radioactive dust and rusted iron. The ruins of skyscrapers had become a "metal forest," mutated creatures gnashed their teeth in the radioactive fog, and survivors would draw their guns over half a ration biscuit.

Cao Jinlong was the most "out of place" person in this wasteland. While others scavenged bullets, he carried a wrench; while others hid canned food, he stockpiled spare parts. Inside his "mobile repair shop," converted from a bus, he kept coils, batteries, and worn notebooks that mattered more to him than his life. The first page showed an auto repair shop from before the war; the last recorded his wife's words: "Fix the generator. Wait for me."

When the Iron Hands gang flaunted their mechanical limbs in front of him, he smiled and loosened the screws on their generator. When radioactive cockroaches gnawed at the fence around his base, he tuned an old radio to a certain frequency, making the bugs' joints shatter under high-frequency sound waves. When the steel body of a "mechanical worm" crushed its way down the street, he fixed his gaze on its exposed cable port, knowing where the monster's weak point lay.

From repairing the first working off-road vehicle to turning an abandoned warehouse into Anvil Fort, complete with electricity and clean water; from hiding alone from rust rain to gathering a mutual-aid group of nurses, farmers, and electricians around him; from accidentally hearing scraps about the "Doomsday Plan" to discovering the mad conspiracy behind the nuclear blasts to select "radiation-adapted" people, Cao Jinlong's wrench was never just turning screws.

When the out-of-control AI defense system unleashed a second wave of radioactive fallout, and his kidnapped wife appeared in the enemy camp as an "adapted person," this man who was always fixing things finally understood...
