Light on the Way Home: The Immortal Dandelion

Chen Muyun, a sociology student at Jing University, uses reason as a shield in an attempt to deconstruct death. But in an elective class, he meets Su Jianwei, an art student terrified of death after losing her grandmother. To complete their project, the two are forced to explore a hospice care center: he uses data to record the social structures surrounding life’s final chapter, while she captures the glimmers of light in hospital rooms with her brush. When Chen Muyun insists on entering a funeral home to confront the cremation process, Su Jianwei’s trauma erupts and their relationship teeters on the brink of collapse. But separation allows them both to grow: he learns reverence amid the ashes, while she dispels her fear through her art. In the end, armed with the fruits of their research, they establish a public service project for “life-and-death education,” sowing hope in the shadow of death and showing young people how to live by facing mortality.
