The River Patrol's Book of Strange Cases

Chen Kan was once an ordinary folklorist, spending his days among piles of old books. He firmly believed that every supernatural phenomenon could be explained through logic and historical records, until he opened a battered notebook called The Strange Records of River Patrol by his own hand.

It was no myth, but a field journal left by officials of the River Patrol Office during the Ming and Qing dynasties, documenting how to mark and isolate “cursed sites.” The “corpse transformations” and “ghosts leading people in circles” described in its pages turned out, in Chen Kan’s analysis, to be the effects of fungal infections, infrasound, and hallucinogenic gases.

But when the notebook’s accounts began matching, one by one, with real-world contamination reports, malformed creatures, and strange sounds from beneath the water, Chen Kan’s academic life was shattered. He was forced to join forces with an on-site engineer, a materials scientist, and a well-connected coordinator.

We discover that we are standing on the edge of a hidden world, caught between multinational corporations intent on plunder and a mysterious organization willing to do anything to maintain the seals. We are no longer searching for legends. We are fighting to survive, and trying to understand the dangerous “truths” history deliberately erased.

This record is the story of how we went from skeptics to firsthand witnesses, and were forced to take up the duties of the River Patrol. What is written here is no tale, but a warning drawn from the perilous path we walked ourselves.
