[Detective Work] [Despair] [Resistance] [The Forgotten]
Beneath this glittering city, a conspiracy called the Bodhi Project is quietly underway. The Penglai Club, made up of the most powerful elites, steals the life essence of children from the lowest rungs of society to extend its members' lives and preserve their youth.
When her younger brother, the only family she has, goes missing, social worker Lin Wan finds every request for help coldly rejected by the System. Forced to venture into the darkness alone, she meets a group of equally broken “prisoners”: a former forensic examiner who lost her daughter, a cement worker whose wife and children are gone, a young survivor who escaped hell, and an old detective struggling within the system.
With nothing but their insignificant lives, they challenge an evil as immense as a towering tree. Yet every step closer to the truth demands an even more painful sacrifice. Just when they believe victory is finally within reach, they discover in despair that all the blood and lives they gave have bought nothing more than a perfect “metabolic renewal” for evil.
This is a war destined to end in defeat. We make torches of ourselves, but what we illuminate is not dawn. It is the eternal outline of despair itself.
