Li Yi, a business graduate, transmigrates to the Northern Song. He tries to make a name for himself using modern knowledge, but repeatedly hits a wall and even ends up in prison twice, suffering one setback after another. At his lowest point, the merchant Zhao Guangyu takes notice of him and hires him as a shop assistant at the Zhao family silk shop. He also meets Zhao Guangyu’s younger sister, Zhao Qingniang. Together, they face one challenge after another: a wedding dress getting soaked, turmoil at the Maritime Trade Office, clearing inventory to repay debts, going to prison for handing out discount coupons, the Zhao family teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, setting up a street stall to survive, rescuing Xiao Shunzi, dealing with local thugs, cutthroat business struggles at the bottom of society, growing their business, resettling refugees, and a major counterfeit-currency case. This transmigrator, with no golden finger to help him, struggles step by step through Bianjing in the Northern Song, gradually finding his footing.
