An Adaptation of Strange Tales of the Tang Dynasty

In the summer and autumn of the second year of the Xiantian era, the emperor has already ascended the throne, yet the Grand Princess’s influence is even greater, and the political winds in Chang’an remain unpredictable. Lu Lingfeng and Su Wuming are ordered to return to Chang’an with an investigation team consisting of Pei Xijun, Fei Jishi, Yingtao, and Xue Huan, ostensibly to escort the golden peaches presented by Kang Kingdom. In bustling Chang’an, Lu Lingfeng resumes his post as Judicial Registrar of Yongzhou, while Su Wuming is appointed to a special office. He also arranges for Fei Jishi to run a su shan shop, turning it into the city’s intelligence hub for undercover agents. Lu and Su introduce new policies and launch a citywide investigation initiative, venturing into Chang’an’s many wards and meeting a wider cross-section of its people. This also allows them to stay clear of the struggle between the emperor and the Grand Princess. After solving a succession of perplexing cases involving Kang Kingdom’s golden peaches, the weeping at Chengfo Temple, the tracks of Bai Ze, the Snake That Eats Its Tail, and the Worry-Relief Shop, all the currents of Chang’an finally converge on the grand polo case, one that concerns the imperial court itself. Lu Lingfeng and Su Wuming must face this autumn of blades and blood, as well as their own fates, and pay a heavy price. Though they weather countless storms, their original resolve to protect the people remains unchanged as they witness the grand Tang era in Chang’an, the city that endures for ten thousand years.
