Republican-era business wars + a fierce fight against the Japanese invaders + two strong leads who dote on each other + three generations standing guard. It's packed with thrilling, exhilarating moments, and its patriotic spirit will bring you to tears!
I was just a petty thief at Shiliupu Wharf. One stormy night, I picked a man's pocket and found a ledger of the Green Gang tycoon Zhang Xiaolin's illicit accounts.
From then on, Shanghai was swept up in turmoil.
Lianxing Hall wanted me dead, the police were hunting me, and Huang Jinrong wanted to recruit me.
I seized every opportunity to rise, offering plans and advice. I went from “Chen Xiaoyu,” someone anyone could bully, to “Young Master Chen,” a force to be reckoned with.
They said I was a slippery little loach in a corrupt world, impossible to pin down.
But I'll show them that even a loach can leap through the Dragon Gate and stir up the winds and clouds of Shanghai!
Together, we are strong.
Drive out the traitors and Japanese invaders!
It's a good book
