The Demons of the Tang Dynasty Are Immortals Who Survived the Celestial Realm

During the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty, monsters lurked beneath the splendor of a prosperous age. Xiao Zheng, a modern-day criminal investigator, transmigrates into Chang’an as a low-ranking officer of the City God Bureau. From the start, he stumbles upon a bizarre case: a brothel’s top courtesan has turned into a painted-skin demon and drained a powerful noble dry. With the Demonic Bestiary awakened in his mind, he sees through the “beauty hiding a skeleton” and discovers that every victim has been drained of their vital essence, apparently by the same monster.

The demon strikes across the city, targeting wealthy men known for their womanizing, while the court tries to cover up the truth. Xiao Zheng takes another tack, following rumors among the common people until he identifies Pingkang Ward as the demon’s main hunting ground. To catch the culprit, he poses as a rich patron and enters this den of desire alone, locked in a deadly battle of wits and temptation with the shapeshifting, beguiling painted-skin demon.

Yet the demon is none other than an immortal who survived the collapse of the Celestial Palace five hundred years ago, only to fall into the mortal world... In the magnificent nights of the Great Tang, one man raises the curtain on the Demon Suppression Bureau.
