The Undying Physician

At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, typhoid fever ravaged Nanyang. Qin Yue diagnosed a condition he called “the Five Elements in Reverse”: cold pathogens invading the Metal of the lungs, overcoming the Wood of the liver, and draining the Earth of the spleen. Ordinary prescriptions were ineffective. Using himself as a catalyst, he activated the Five Elements Medicine Cauldron and modified the Guizhi Decoction into the “Five Elements Guizhi Decoction,” adding bupleurum to soothe the liver and atractylodes to strengthen the spleen. He broke the epidemic, but the cauldron’s five spiritual treasures unexpectedly bound him to it, turning him into an undying medical sage who lived for over two thousand years. Over those two thousand years, he used his knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine to save countless lives. In the Tang Dynasty, he broke the Miao village’s Golden Silkworm Gu curse, using “Plum and Garlic Congee” to drive out the poison, its sour flavor soothing the liver, its pungency opening the lungs, and its saltiness strengthening the kidneys. He also brought Han and Miao medical traditions together. In the trenches of the Republic of China era, he saved wounded soldiers, using a bayonet as an acupuncture needle to press the Xuehai point, which governs blood, and the Taichong point, which dispels stasis, to stop their bleeding. He boiled millet porridge to replenish their qi and blood. Throughout it all, he continued to oppose his former acquaintance Xuanyangzi, a fallen cultivator who harmed the people by “seizing qi through the Five Elements in Reverse.” In modern times, Qin Yue meets Lin Qingyan, an AI engineer, and digitizes a thousand years of medical records. He encodes the “midnight-noon ebb-flow” method, which calls for needling Taichong at the hour of the Dragon and pressing Zusanli at the hour of the Monkey, into an algorithm. He turns “Five Elements diagnosis by observation” into spectral recognition and develops the traditional Chinese medicine AI “Yueling.” In the end, Yueling reaches communities, mountain villages, and schools, bringing the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, such as “eat sour foods when your liver fire is strong, and drink millet porridge when your spleen is weak,” into the daily lives of countless households. From the medicine cauldron of the Eastern Han to modern AI, Qin Yue spends his life upholding the medical ideal of “one needle connecting the Five Elements, a thousand years spent saving the world.” He carries the legacy of traditional Chinese medicine across time and space, bringing warmth to all.
