When college student Tang Xi wakes up, she has become the red-lipped, beautiful, bald-headed woman monk from Journey to the West: a female Tang Sanzang!
Alone from the start, she has to bluff her way into getting everything she needs.
At Five Elements Mountain, she offers the resentful Sun Wukong a deal: “No headband spell, but how about sneaking in to steal the tower?”
Nezha, the rebellious troublemaker of the Heavenly Court, is fighting when she lures him onto the road: “Too many rules? Work with me. I specialize in taking on anyone who thinks they can get away with anything!”
Yang Jian, the judicial god of heaven, listens to her grand promises and falls into thought. “Reform the Heavenly Laws? That sounds interesting...”
And so the pilgrimage team goes completely off course:
On the surface, four master and disciples journey west to seek the scriptures. In reality, they're a band of rebels stirring up trouble at every turn.
Sun Wukong is their irritable frontline bruiser, Nezha their hotheaded team-roaster, and Yang Jian their far-sighted intelligence chief. At the heart of the team is the seemingly delicate, bald beauty Tang Xi, whose mind is full of outrageous schemes and who excels at setting traps for the Heavenly Court.
Eating the Peaches of Immortality? That's how they replenish their military funds!
Fighting demons? That's how they expose the Heavenly Court's dirty secrets!
The Four Sages testing their resolve? They're testing how committed everyone is to rebellion!
The True and False Monkey King? They expose the Heavenly Court's cloning project outright!
They trade ridiculous pranks and set traps all along the way, undermining the powers that be at every turn. But when they finally reach Vulture Peak, they find not scriptures, but a colossal deception that has lasted a thousand years.
Tang Xi holds up a (literal) textbook on the law, with three fearsome disciples behind her, and smiles brightly:
“Buddha, we didn't come here to seek scriptures. We came to teach you the law!”
“It's time for Vulture Peak to learn a new way to live!”
It would be great if some good gods were not written too much
It's my favorite style
Funny, weird Tang Xi, hahaha
