The Haitan Guerrilla Force

Japanese troops trampled the fishing fires of Haitan Island into ruin. Fisherman Chen Polang, scholar Lin Shuying, and veteran Lu Chenzhou stood shoulder to shoulder with the people. They packed explosives into bamboo baskets, concealed secret messages beneath kelp, and used fishing drums to sound warnings. From fighting the Japanese to avenge their wrongs to protecting the island’s liberation, they endured eight years of bloodshed so the island’s fishing songs could ring out once more and the harbor could fill with returning sails.
