The Qin and Han Dynasty Saga

Set against the backdrop of the late Qin and early Han dynasties, this historical novel humorously recounts the turbulent changes from the end of the Qin dynasty to the years after Emperor Wu of Han.

The story begins in the final years of the Qin dynasty. Liu Bang rises amid the chaos, using his ruthless cunning to play the coward and save his life at the Feast at Hong Gate. Later, he cleverly uses a diversion to sneak through Chencang, gradually competing with Xiang Yu for control of the realm. Though Xiang Yu is a peerless warrior, his arrogance and stubbornness lead to crushing defeats at battles such as Pengcheng and Gaixia. He eventually takes his own life by the Wu River, allowing Liu Bang to establish the Han dynasty.

In the early Han dynasty, Liu Bang is busy dealing with kings who bear other surnames, while Empress Lu is no less occupied. After Liu Bang's death, she fights fiercely against the Liu clan to consolidate the Lu family's power, setting off one gripping court struggle after another. Emperor Wen of Han, Liu Heng, keeps the situation under control by playing the coward while secretly building up his strength. During Emperor Jing's reign, Chao Cuo proposes reducing the power of the vassal kings, triggering the Rebellion of the Seven States. Fortunately, Zhou Yafu turns the tide. Emperor Wu of Han expands the empire with formidable generals such as Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, but years of warfare also drain the treasury. After Emperor Wu's death, Huo Guang takes charge of the government and holds sway over the court. Liu Bingyi, the future Emperor Xuan of Han, bides his time for years before finally eliminating the Huo family's influence and ushering in the Zhaoxuan Restoration. However, Emperor Yuan of Han, Liu Shi, relies on Confucian scholars to govern, allowing powerful relatives and eunuchs to seize control as the Han dynasty gradually declines.

Through vivid depictions and absurd, irreverent storytelling, the novel reveals the ruthless calculations and power struggles of emperors and their ministers throughout this period, offering you a different perspective on Qin and Han history.
