Kill Wukong? Bodhi Won't Allow It

Don’t believe that Wukong barged through the Three Realms using supernatural powers! He stormed the Underworld because Yama had already altered the Book of Life and Death. He broke into the Heavenly Palace because the Supreme Lord Lao deliberately sent him to the Xun position to forge his Fiery Golden Eyes. This monkey couldn’t be killed: if he died, Patriarch Bodhi would trample Mount Spirit!

Wukong felt wronged when the Tightening Spell was used on him, then immediately exposed Bajie and the Supreme Lord Lao’s servant exchanging meaningful glances. Buddhism demanded a bribe before handing over the true scriptures, so Wukong countered with a Daoist token, leaving even the Tathagata to back down. The power games of the Three Realms are just like office politics: the Supreme Lord Lao sending his servant to test Wukong is a boss probing an employee, while Wukong serves as the scale of balance, keeping both sides happy.

Why was Patriarch Bodhi so determined to protect Wukong? This Journey to the West is a power play in which the big shots pave the way for him. The more you read, the more addictive it gets!
