From Tailor Shop to Nursing Home: My Dog Boss Was Reborn to Find Me

On the doorstep of a tailor shop on a stormy night, 42-year-old Lin Shuzhen meets Afu for the first time. When the little yellow dog rubs against her injured hand, it looks just like her late husband used to. It even whines at the carpenter's plane and hides the braised beef her husband loved in a flowerpot. Only when Afu shields her from falling debris at a demolition site and, with its tail, brushes a faint scar onto her wrist as it dies does she understand: some goodbyes are simply reunions in another form.

Over the next forty years, Laifu marks a scammer with droppings while she's an empty nester, Fubao brings her a soy sauce bottle to awaken her memories as Alzheimer's takes hold, and Old Fu drowns out her night terrors with its snoring in the nursing home. The four Chinese village dogs can always find her by that scar, weaving the scent of soy milk from the alley and the clatter of her sewing machine into the tapestry of her eighty years.

It turns out he never meant to leave. He simply took on a furry new form and stayed by her side, turning one lifetime together into four.
