Our Childhood Sweetheart Has Grown Up, and the Grand Secretary Dotes on Her

At her first-birthday grasping ceremony, she ignored the dazzling array of treasures and reached only for the hem of the cool, aloof young man's robe. From then on, Xiao Jinglan's life was sweetly held hostage by a little "bundle" named Shen Zhihe.

He was the capital's top scholar, with his sights set on the wide world, yet he willingly let himself be confined to court and climbed the ranks step by step, all to build a worry-free haven where he could protect her innocence for life. She was a radiant girl nurtured by a family of military and scholarly traditions. Under his boundless affection, she grew wildly until she became a kapok tree strong enough to stand by his side.

From childhood sweethearts calling him "Brother Lan" to a devoted couple who would spend their lives together. No melodramatic misunderstandings, no scheming rival, just the everyday give-and-take of her making a fuss while he smiles, and a tenderness that runs to the bone.

Even more remarkably, years later, their daughter repeated her mother's feat at her first-birthday banquet, wobbling over to grab the jade pendant of the young heir of the Duke of Zhenguo's household...

This is a fated cycle spanning two generations, and an answer written over the course of a lifetime: the most moving words of love aren't vows of eternal devotion, but "Ever since I was little, you were the only one I wanted."
