The Poor Scholar and the General's Wife Strike Back

Business executive Yang Yong transmigrates and finds himself a penniless scholar with barely a roof over his head. He has only just woken up when creditors are pounding on his door, demanding his life. Desperate to survive, he sets his sights on the literary marriage contest hosted by the An Yuan General’s residence. The target is An Qi, the general’s daughter, who, according to rumor, refused to accept her father’s arranged marriage and held a contest of her own to choose a husband through literature.

Armed with a store of poetry from his transmigration, Yang Yong makes a stunning impression at the poetry contest. Just as he thinks he can finally escape his troubles, General An, stationed far away on the frontier, hears the news and flies into a rage, vowing to punish the poor scholar who “led his daughter astray.” Faced with her father’s fury, An Qi threatens to take her own life. Her enraged father ultimately casts her out, and she follows Yang Yong back to his shabby, crumbling home.

From fine silks and rich meals to plain food and simple living, from a general’s mansion to a humble home, this “married couple,” forced together by circumstance, support each other through hardship and grow closer through adversity. Watch as a modern soul uses wisdom and learning to forge a path to success from humble beginnings in ancient times, and as a general’s orphaned daughter uses resilience and devotion to write a legendary love story that transcends social class.
