Terror in Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio! I Transmigrated into Ning Caichen and Now Ghosts Are After Me

The television in his rented room was showing Liaozhai. Chewing on cold takeout, Li Xingchen sighed. “Ancient scholars had all the luck with women. I graduated straight into unemployment, and I don’t even have a girlfriend.” Before he had finished speaking, a pale, icy light suddenly burst from the screen, dragging him into the darkness with a bone-chilling cold.

When he opened his eyes again, he was lying on a wooden plank that reeked of mold. He was wrapped in unfamiliar robes of moon-white, and memories surged into his mind like a tide. He had actually become Ning Caichen, who had just arrived at Lanruo Temple! Shadows swayed beyond the torn window paper like countless ghosts. Dead leaves clung to cobwebs in the corner, and a faint stench of decay lingered in the air.

“What do you do when you run into a ghost at night?” Just as fear gripped his heart, a bewitching woman’s voice came from outside the door. Li Xingchen gritted his teeth and opened it. Nie Xiaoqian stood in the moonlight, dressed in white. Her cool, delicate features were touched with alluring charm, and the curves of her chest pressed against her clothing. She was more beautiful than Wang Zuxian, but her fingertips were as cold as a corpse’s, with not a trace of life in her.

Before he could recover, more figures appeared. Xin Shisiniang wore red as bright as blood and smiled with crinkled eyes, but her shadow warped and twisted in the light of the lantern. Yingning’s laughter rang out sweetly as she bounced toward him, yet a faint smell of a corpse wafted from her. They surrounded him, softly pleading, “Please take us in,” while greed glinted in their eyes. They looked like hungry ghosts watching their prey.

Crouched behind the door, Li Xingchen stared at the “flower spirits and fox ghosts” surrounding him. Cold sweat soaked through his clothes, and at last he screamed at the empty courtyard, “Help!”

Nie Xiaoqian: “Young master, it’s late. Where are you going?”

Xin Shisiniang: “Young master, am I not pretty?”
