From the Start, Firecrackers in the Hallway Set the Whole Fire Station on Alert

During the Lantern Festival, Gu Chen set off firecrackers in the apartment stairwell and nearly blew up the whole building! His father and father-in-law waited for him to admit he was wrong. Instead, Gu Chen whipped out a matchbox and shouted to his childhood sweetheart, “Once I’ve set off this string of firecrackers, I’m marrying you!” The whole building was thrown into an uproar. A neighbor called the police, and a fire engine came screaming to the rescue. The driver turned out to be Gu Chen’s own older brother! From then on, his father-in-law, a martial arts champion, made him practice boxing with one hand, while his mother-in-law, a urologist, kept a close eye on him with the other, threatening to “snip it for good.” And trailing behind him was his second-grade childhood sweetheart, determined to become his bride. While the whole school laughed at Gu Chen for being in an arranged childhood engagement, he quietly pulled out his red scarf and put it on. These days, how can being a third-grade student be harder than being a police station chief?
