Songs Across the Isle

Lin Wansheng, a brilliant modern-day history student, is repairing a rare ancient book when a burst of blue light from its pages sweeps her into a rift in time. She wakes to find herself the frail, sickly legitimate daughter of the Grand Tutor’s household in the Great Jing dynasty. Her family is trying to curry favor with the powerful by marrying her off as a secondary consort to the brutal, bloodthirsty Third Prince. Desperate, Lin Wansheng accidentally uncovers the secret of Gu Muyu, the Prince of Jing’an, who commands a powerful army, and is forced to strike a “cooperation pact” with him. Gu Muyu appears cold and aloof, but he bears the weight of the royal family’s suspicions and a blood feud against his clan. Drawing on her modern historical knowledge and archaeological skills, Lin Wansheng repeatedly helps him foil political plots and avert crises on the borders. As distrust gives way to devotion, the two grow closer amid a maelstrom of political intrigue. But when the rift in time appears again, they face an impossible choice: if Lin Wansheng stays in Great Jing, she must confront the bloody turmoil of a change in the imperial succession; if she returns to the modern world, she must leave behind her deep bond with Gu Muyu. When the Second Prince and the Chancellor join forces to stage a coup, the gateway through time opens amid the flames of war. Can they break free of fate and protect a love that transcends the ages?
