Charcoal-Grilled Rhythm

Forty-five-year-old single mom Lin Xi lives by one rule: play it safe. Her twenty-two-year-old unemployed daughter, Li Weilin, lives by one motto: go all out. When the barbecue shop her mother invested her entire savings in collides with her daughter’s rap dreams and nowhere to go, their mother-daughter battle over the “right to the skewers” nearly sets their tiny sixty-square-meter shop ablaze before its time.

Then a livestream mishap turns Li Weilin’s mom’s “Ten Commandments for Grilling Pork Kidney” into a rap in the Sichuan-Chongqing dialect, and its addictive beat instantly takes over the trending searches! The conservative mom is forced to pick up a mic, while her rebellious daughter writes lyrics at a furious pace. Their “bickering in the kitchen” turns into a “duo onstage,” and they discover that smoky, greasy rap hits harder than electronic music.

Now the “Charcoal Beat” barbecue music plaza is packed every night. But nobody knows that their next challenge is to take the stage on “Huaxia Rap”... Will reality leave them “burnt to a crisp” this time, or will they use cumin and rhymes to keep frying up a sizzling life?
