The Eve of Journey to the West

Modern forensic investigator Yuan Zhao transmigrates into the Tang dynasty as an officer in the Bureau of Investigation, only to be forced to take on a bizarre unsolved case: the newly crowned top scholar has died suddenly, and his corpse is a soulless painted skin.

He thinks it is an ordinary murder, but soon gets caught up in a world-shaking maelstrom of Buddhist and Daoist rivalries and divine schemes. Armed with a modern scientific mindset, Yuan Zhao faces sorcery and trickery by establishing the Demon-Suppression Bureau, using mortal ingenuity to fight supernatural powers.

Beneath Chang'an's golden age, demons and monsters run rampant. Yuan Zhao follows the clues and uncovers the most brutal truth behind the pilgrimage to the West.
