Toward an Independent System of Knowledge in Chinese History

As the river of history rushes into the present, every nation seeks an anchor for its spirit within the coordinates of time and space. For a country with thousands of years of accumulated civilization, history is not merely a return to the past, but also a way to establish our bearings in the present and chart a course for the future. From the broad perspective of cultural development in the new era, building an independent system of historical knowledge is no longer merely an academic question. It is an inevitable choice, one that responds to the questions of our time and carries forward the threads of civilization. This “independence” is by no means a closed cycle of self-reference. Rather, it is a rational commitment to holding firm to our own position in dialogue among diverse civilizations and establishing a distinctive voice amid academic currents. Behind it lie reverence for the inheritance of civilization and the pursuit of academic innovation, as well as the deeper mission of providing historical wisdom to guide social development.
