The Balance of the Heavenly Gate tells the extraordinary story of Chen Mo, a young archaeologist. At the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, he accidentally touches the “Ancestral Dragon Card” and becomes a “Resonator,” someone capable of connecting with historical figures. He also meets Qin Qing, an agent from Bureau 749. They discover that, after energy leaked from the “Heavenly Gate,” historical figures such as Zhu Yuanzhang, Li Shimin, Wu Zetian, and Wang Mang awakened in the modern world as “Returnees,” but were initially regarded as threats.
When Returnees from ancient civilizations beyond China, including Rome, try to seize the Heavenly Gate and destroy the global balance of civilizations, Chen Mo and Qin Qing join forces with the Chinese Returnees to form the “Guardians’ Alliance.” Four Returnees each wield a key to the Heavenly Gate, and a decisive battle unfolds at the First Emperor’s Mausoleum. In the end, Wang Mang’s sacrifice and everyone’s resolve to protect the world together activate the Heavenly Gate’s “Civilization Barrier,” driving back the invaders and bringing an initial peace.
After the battle, the Returnees find their own ways to settle into modern life, letting the warmth of history nourish the present. But the balance will not last forever. Newly discovered ruins in the Kunlun Mountains, the mystery of the “First Trial,” and the shadow of energy from beyond once again summon Chen Mo and his companions to a new journey. This is not only a battle to protect civilization across time, but also a profound exploration of history and the present, obsession and redemption, and individual choices and the coexistence of civilizations.
