The Guixu Hotel holds a century-old secret about yin and yang and serves as a unique hub connecting the human world and the spirit realm. On his first day as the new front-desk clerk, Lin Mo is drawn into a battle of protection spanning time and space because of half a Guixu jade pendant. Soul Eaters covet the soul of the Lord of Guixu hidden deep within the hotel, plotting to tear open the divide between yin and yang and let chaos from the spirit realm consume the human world.
To thwart the Soul Eater Venerable's plot, Lin Mo and a group of companions with wildly different personalities form a guardian squad: Xia Xiaomeng, who carries “comically unreliable exorcism tools” like mugwort rice dumplings and cinnabar sachets; Ling Yue, who provides technical support through holographic projections; and Su Qingyan, who knows the hotel's history and secrets about spirits. They venture into the attic's temporal echoes, underground chambers, and corridors of time to search for the Heart of Guixu, soul fragments, and the key to the passage between yin and yang. Along the way, they receive help from friendly spirits like Xiaotao, a nurse's lingering apparition; Dr. Li, a spirit sealed inside a fountain pen; and the Clockmaker, a gear-bound guardian spirit. Their perilous adventures also produce plenty of laughs: they drive off Soul Eater markings with mugwort sesame candy and stabilize temporal anchor points with rune-etched rice cakes, keeping their frightening adventure wrapped in warmth and humor.
From the nurse's lingering obsession in Room 306 to the struggle for the key among the clock tower's gears, and finally the climactic battle at the sealed well, the group awakens the Lord of Guixu with the power of “Guixu's guardians” and seals the Soul Eater Venerable's true body. After the battle, they help the spirits complete their journey into reincarnation and turn the hotel into a refuge filled with heartwarming stories. But they also detect signs of lingering forces in the spirit realm. The struggle to protect the order between yin and yang is far from over. Open this journal, and you'll find more than one adventure after another: you'll discover the true meaning of “protection,” woven together by humans and spirits, past and present.
