In the 22nd century, the megacorporation SkyDome Group rules the world. To manage the surplus population and vent the resentment of the lower classes, it built the colossal vertical city of Babylon and forcibly launched the Abyss Game, turning the entire city into an inescapable survival game.
Everyone is a player: Every citizen is implanted with a “personal terminal” at birth, and their vision is filled with a game UI: health bars, levels, skills, and equipment slots.
One currency for all: Traditional money has been abolished. The only currency in circulation is “credit,” which is both money and lifespan. Working, completing quests, and even breathing, through a basic survival tax, all cost or earn credits.
A rigid class system: Level determines everything. High-level residents live in the sunlit upper district of Eden, enjoying clean air and real food. Low-level residents struggle in the lower Rust Belt, surrounded by sewage, neon, and violence.
Rules of death: When a person's credits reach zero or their health is depleted, their terminal releases a neurotoxin and carries out “account termination.” This gives the “game” an exceptionally brutal sense of reality.
