You Can’t Help Slacking Off When You Drift Through the Immortal Sect

Everyone says Chen Xiaoyu is the least promising of their batch of disciples.

While her fellow disciples sweat it out on the practice grounds, she tells stories to the seedlings in her spirit field. While everyone else studies tirelessly in the Scripture Pavilion, she researches how to make roasted sweet potatoes tastier with a small fireball spell. The hillside plot she was assigned has thin, rocky soil and scant spiritual energy. Even the weeds grow feebly.

The steward came to inspect it once, shook his head, and left, certain she'd come in last at the year-end assessment.

Chen Xiaoyu didn't care in the least. She even built a crooked little thatched pavilion on the hillside, grandly naming it the "Rain-Viewing Platform." Every day, she would lie in the pavilion, munching on spirit melon seeds she'd roasted herself, and casually bury the empty shells in the soil.

Then one day, a spirit crane belonging to an inner sect elder flew past, went berserk, and swooped down to peck frantically at her plot, digging three inches into the soil.

The elder hurried after it, intending to scold her, but his gaze suddenly fixed on the strange, vivid green sprouts the crane had unearthed. His expression changed dramatically, and his voice rose in alarm:

"Girl! What... what you've got growing here is the long-lost Azure Glow Immortal Sunflower?! What did you plant it with?"

Chen Xiaoyu scratched her head and pulled a handful of melon seeds from her pocket.

"Just these, Elder. Would you like some too?"
