The Sword Heart of Heaven and Earth: Rivers and Mountains Return as One

As the searing pain of countless swords piercing his heart fades, and the stone monument proclaiming “Humans and demons must never walk the same path” crumbles to dust, Wangquan Fugui, once the Wangquan Manor’s “ultimate weapon,” finally casts off the shackles of demon slaying. Taking Qing Tong by the hand, he sets out on the journey through mountains and rivers they promised each other long ago.

There are no tense clashes between sects, no relentless pressure from the Demon-Slaying Alliance. Only the sweet wild fruit growing across the mountains, the gentle night breeze in the bamboo groves, and every stretch of ground they walk side by side. In a village from a painting, they help humans and little demons build an irrigation canal together. In the deserts of the Western Regions, they listen to an old camel demon tell tales of peace in ancient times. In the waterways of Jiangnan, they watch a spider-clan girl play Go against a human scholar. Step by step, they turn the scenery of the “mountains and rivers painting” into the warmth and bustle of real life.

Now and then, they encounter old friends: Quan Rumu brings children from the “Human-Demon Exchange School” to deliver freshly brewed fruit wine; Wangquan Baye offers dried herbs beside Huanzhu’s grave; even the little fox demon they once saved comes hopping over with wildflowers. The tenderness once hidden by their identities as “weapons,” and the beauty they overlooked while consumed by vengeance, gradually fill the emptiness in their sword-hearts on this unhurried journey.

This is no martial arts saga of flashing blades, but a “Journey Home” for two people who have awakened. The legendary “Sword Heart of Heaven and Earth” is not the power to cut down everyone beneath the sky, but the courage to protect the ordinary lives of all beings even after seeing countless mountains and rivers. And “returning together through mountains and rivers” does not mean reaching a particular destination. With you by my side, every step is a place where my heart can rest.
