Don’t Test My Limits

My three-year marriage to Gu Jinyan was a carefully planned marriage alliance.

He was a golden boy, born to stand above everyone else, while I was just a pawn he used to appease his family.

Tonight was the Gu family's dinner, but one phone call from his beloved Anya was enough to make him prepare to leave halfway through.

“Jinyan, Anya... she says her heart is bothering her. I have to go check on her.” He couldn’t even look me in the eye.

Before I could say a word, his sharp-tongued cousin Gu Sisi cut in: “Cousin-in-law, can’t you be a little more understanding? You know Sister Anya is in poor health. If something happens, can you take responsibility?”

I looked at Gu Jinyan. He silently accepted his cousin’s accusation, impatience filling his eyes.

“Wen Nian, don’t make a scene. I’ll be back soon.” He left those words behind and turned to go.

“Gu Jinyan,” I called after him. My voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough to silence the entire dining room. “If you walk out that door today, we’re over.”

He paused, then looked back at me with eyes as cold as if I were a unreasonable stranger.

In the end, he left without looking back, leaving me alone with a table full of Gu family members eager to watch the drama unfold.
