The Sugar You Sent Me from the Milky Way

Lin Weimian, a cool and solitary transfer student, has a secret she can’t tell anyone: she was once a science prodigy, but now she deliberately hides her talents to protect her seriously ill younger sister, struggling to get by in the arts track. Her world is cramped and narrow, and all she hopes for is the hefty competition prize money that could save her sister’s life. Jiang Xu, the favored son of the heavens, has a problem of his own: a family wager that could decide his freedom is fast approaching, and he urgently needs a “girlfriend” as a shield to escape an arranged marriage. His ideal candidate must be calm, clever, and… immune to his charms. And so, they strike a deal, each getting what they need. He pays her handsomely and keeps her safe; She pretends to be his girlfriend and helps him get out of a bind. To everyone else, they are a baffling match. People assume the orphan is clinging to the golden boy, and that reason has fallen prey to an illusion. Then comes the physics competition final. Under the spotlight, a problem stumps every brilliant contestant. In full view of the crowd, Lin Weimian, long dismissed as a “pretty face,” takes the pen Jiang Xu offers her and walks to the board. Amid the uproar, she solves a problem that even the professors had frowned over. At the height of her triumph, he smiles behind her and announces to the world: “I forgot to introduce my ‘temporary girlfriend.’ She’s the missing genius who swept every competition back then.” Later, he places the championship trophy and all the prize money in her hands, but takes away her sheet of formula-covered notes, his gaze tender: “The prize money is yours, and so is the glory.” “All I want is this sheet of paper, because you wrote my name on the back without even realizing it.”
