The Silent Deep: A Resistance-Era Spy Thriller

In 1944, Nanjing is shrouded in gloom. Gu Shenzhi, head of the Kuomintang's Central Bureau of Investigation and Statistics confidential records section, appears refined and courteous, but is in fact a Communist underground agent codenamed “Deep Pool.” When a coded message arrives declaring, “Hummingbird has been exposed,” he is cornered. He has no choice but to use one man to kill another, sending his innocent colleague He Buyu to the execution ground and carrying out a ruthless escape. From that day on, “Deep Pool” sinks beneath the surface, and “Lone Star” quietly rises.

He Buyu's death is like a stone tossed into a deep pool, sending ripples in every direction. His ambitious deputy, Zhao Shirong, closes in step by step, while Shen Moshu, a communications expert whose identity is shrouded in mystery, keeps her distance yet remains close. Meanwhile, the special envoy behind the scenes has already laid an inescapable web. In this deadly maze, where everyone fears for their life, Gu Shenzhi must fend off attacks from within while completing the mission entrusted to him by the organization.

From exposing the deadly trap of the “Thunderclap Plan” to setting a snare that makes Zhao Shirong suffer the consequences of his own schemes; from joining forces with Shen Moshu to steal the “Long Night” list, which could decide who lives and dies, to fleeing for his life after his identity is exposed... Gu Shenzhi dances on the edge of a blade, and every step could send him plunging into an abyss.

When the final mission is complete and the smoke of battle is about to clear, Gu Shenzhi chooses to stay behind. He erases his past and becomes a quiet secondhand-bookshop owner among ordinary folk, continuing his deepest undercover work. Dawn is near, yet the true “Deep Pool” remains silent. Hidden in history's shadows, their names unknown and their achievements enduring forever, they protect the ultimate victory through their utter silence.
