At the Helm in Philadelphia: The 76Ers Dynasty

Chen Yandong, a sports investment operator from 2025, unexpectedly transmigrated back to Philadelphia in 2000, clutching only the 3% stake in the Philadelphia 76ers left to him by his family, a stake worth next to nothing. At the time, the 76ers were struggling with Iverson having to carry the team alone, and their ownership was scattered like loose sand: the Comcast Group held a controlling 42%, a local business alliance was secretly facing a cash crisis, and the scattered minority shareholders had no faith in the team’s future. Drawing on his memories of the NBA’s ups and downs over the next twenty years, Chen Yandong used “precision strikes and rational alliances” to pry open a gap in the ownership structure. He bought out cash-strapped shareholders during the real estate crisis, tied Comcast down with a bet on broadcast rights, and secured scattered shares on the eve of labor negotiations. In just five years, he went from 3% ownership to an 80% controlling stake, putting an end to the team’s chaotic, short-sighted approach to building a roster. After taking control, he refused to repeat the mistakes of the “Brand high-salary trap,” the “Fultz injury gamble,” and the “George high-salary liability.” He built a “defense and shooters” system around Iverson, leading the team to defeat the Spurs’ GDP trio and win their first championship in 2007. In the 2013 draft, he spotted talent others overlooked and picked Giannis Antetokounmpo and Embiid, avoiding the dead end of tanking. In 2018, he toppled the Warriors dynasty. In 2025, he adapted to the NBA’s new “four-point shot at the end of a quarter” rule, defeating the Nuggets with Maxey’s game-winning three to forge “three Philadelphia dynasties” spanning twenty-five years. There are no “cheat-code miracles” in this story, only precise calculations of NBA salary-cap rules, advance precautions against player injury risks, and repeated work on tactical details
