Moonlight over Chang'an, Shining on Jiangnan

Xiao Jing, the mighty general who guards the nation, has spent half his life on blood-soaked battlefields. Yet an imperial decree orders him to marry Shen Zhiyi, the daughter of the Minister of Personnel, whom he has never even met. He despises the match and sees her as a pawn in court politics. Gentle but strong-willed, she uses her intelligence to dispel the undercurrents in the household and makes plans for him amid the flames of war. From treating each other with icy politeness to standing side by side, affection gradually grows between them amid the flash of blades. As their love for one another becomes entwined with their duty to their country, this couple, who married before they fell in love, finally comes to understand the world and sincerity in each other’s eyes through storm and hardship. The years of married life for Xiao Jing and Shen Zhiyi bring the warmth of children gathered around them, but also turbulent currents beneath the surface. Though the borderlands have been pacified, the Helian clan’s ambitions remain. Floods in Jiangnan shake the imperial court, while remnants of the forces behind the Minister Li case rise again in the turmoil surrounding the new emperor’s accession. Xiao Jing’s wish to lay down his armor and retire to the countryside has yet to come true, and strange illnesses begin appearing one after another at Shen Zhiyi’s medical clinic, revealing a conspiracy that threatens the people’s livelihood. The couple join forces once more, taking their home as their shield and their country as their armor. Amid court intrigues and martial-world conflicts, they protect the peace they spent half their lives winning. The moonlight over Chang'an and the spring waters of Jiangnan bear witness to their steadfastness, from the battlefield to everyday life. In the end, the sharpest sword is the tenderness kept in one’s heart, and the strongest shield is the simple life of daily meals and household chores.
