A New Beginning in Medicine

The protagonist, Chen Fei, and his wife, Liu Fang, have been together since their school-uniform days and married in wedding gowns. Both graduated from a college of traditional Chinese medicine. Chen Fei studied general Chinese medicine, while Liu Fang trained in nursing. They also interned at the provincial central hospital at the same time, and were the model couple that all their college classmates envied. However, Chen Fei came from a rural family, while Liu Fang’s family lived in the city. Her family opposed their marriage from the start, but eventually they agreed that Chen Fei would marry into the Liu family, and the wedding went ahead. Through hard work and with help from his college classmates, Chen Fei opened his own Chinese medicine clinic, while Liu Fang stayed at the provincial hospital. Throughout their marriage, Chen Fei did everything he could to please Liu Fang’s family, always doing his duty. But Liu Fang had a younger brother who was lazy and useless, and Liu Fang was the kind of sister who would do anything to support him. She began squeezing Chen Fei for money, and at the hospital, she cheated with her department head to get ahead. Chen Fei caught them in the act and decided to divorce her, but the Liu family schemed against him and made him leave with nothing. Heartbroken and disillusioned, Chen Fei decided to leave the place that had brought him so much pain. He headed north alone and arrived in the city of Xi’an to start a new life. Since he practiced Chinese medicine, he opened a wellness clinic, beginning a new chapter in his life.
