Wang Anran, a graduate student from a top-tier university, spent four years working at a major tech company before being laid off due to poor business performance. Unemployment weighed heavily on him, and feeling down, he went drinking with a fellow hometown native. On the way there by ride-hailing car, he met Liu Lei, a driver in debt from trying to start his own business. On the day of the blood moon in 2025, Wang Anran and Liu Lei accidentally transmigrate by car to the rural Shandong of 1977. There, Wang sees what the countryside was truly like at the time and meets Shi Mingli, a Shanghai youth sent to the countryside. The two make their way to Shanghai by taking the college entrance exam, while driver Liu Lei uses his technical skills to become a professional driver.
