I Am a Son-in-Law in the Ming Dynasty

Chen Xu, a modern university student, made a snarky remark at the cinema. The next second, a faulty seat shocked him and he transmigrated into a murderer in a Ming dynasty death row, due to be beheaded in three days! Help, I've never even killed a chicken!

To save his own skin, he launches an absurd bid for survival in front of the stern, old-fashioned Grand Preceptor Lin, who has come to visit him in prison. He talks about everything from “macroeconomic regulation” to “KPI performance reviews,” and brags about a hundred ways to make soap and the theory of building a powerful maritime nation.

Grand Preceptor Lin had meant to charge him with spreading heretical nonsense, but is unexpectedly swept up by The Wealth of Nations: A Ming-Era Village Edition and a bowl of fragrant braised pork. The condemned prisoner instantly becomes the Grand Preceptor's household “chief con artist,” er, guest!

He teaches the Grand Preceptor's daughter, Lin Wan'er, calculus as a love letter and takes her stargazing with “celestial magic” (a crude telescope). But instead of treating him like a lecher, the young woman gazes at him starry-eyed and becomes his number-one fan!

And so Chen Xu uses “project management” to repair the Yellow River with his left hand, while wielding “psychological tactics” to argue with people at court with his right. Just as his career and love life are taking off, why is the Grand Preceptor, who once wanted him beheaded, now constantly chasing after him to ask, “Dear son-in-law, when are we going to build that steam engine?”

This is the fantastical, ridiculous tale of a modern good-for-nothing who uses his half-baked modern knowledge to completely mislead a stern Grand Preceptor, win the hand of a beautiful, wealthy woman, and make his way through the Ming dynasty, turning the imperial court upside down with laughter!
