The Old Rascal Zhou Botong is set in Jin Yong's wuxia universe and follows the life of the “Old Rascal” Zhou Botong. The novel portrays his growth from a mischievous boy learning martial arts on Mount Zhongnan, to a chivalrous wanderer of the jianghu, and finally to a martial arts eccentric who creates peerless techniques such as “Left-Right Mutual Combat” and “Vacant Fist.” The story follows two main threads: “the pursuit of martial arts” and “personal transformation.” It features both thrilling conflicts and martial arts duels in the jianghu, and Zhou Botong's struggles to reconcile chivalry with his nature, and responsibility with freedom. Across ten volumes, the story unfolds against a sweeping jianghu backdrop in the style of Jin Yong, while also offering nuanced portrayals of its characters and their emotions. In the end, it creates a more vivid, fully rounded Zhou Botong, one who embodies both the “spirit of a mischievous boy” and the “soul of a great hero,” while adding an important chapter to the “Quanzhen Sect storyline” in Jin Yong's martial arts universe.
