Reborn in 1985: The Stars Shine Bright Over the Loess Hills

After failing in middle age, Lin Weidong was reborn at the end of his life, back in 1985, at the very moment he was born beside a rural latrine in China. Armed with the memories of two lifetimes, he vowed to change the tragedy of his previous life, when his family was destroyed and his loved ones died.

Starting from the impoverished yellow-earth hills, he led his family in building their initial wealth, rode the waves of the stock market, invested in real estate, and created a vast business empire. But the ultimate purpose of all that wealth was not ambition. It was a wild dream hidden deep in his heart: to rebuild the “Epang Palace” in the ancient capital of Chang’an, as a monument to the glory of civilization, both for this era and to make amends for the regrets of his past life.

The driving force behind it all was his profound guilt and love for his wife, Su Wanqing, and daughter, Xiaoyu, spanning two lifetimes. From quietly protecting them in childhood to reuniting and falling in love at university, they moved forward side by side. When the palace of his dreams was finally complete, could he summon the courage to confess the secret of his rebirth to the woman he loved, and find final redemption for his soul?
