In the chaotic Republic of China, the land is shattered and the nation torn apart. Shen Yan is a young master from a Jiangnan medical family. On the surface, he practices medicine and saves lives; in truth, he is an underground Communist Party liaison.
Nanjing falls, and rivers of blood flow through the city. He witnesses his fellow countrymen being slaughtered, while the loyalty of his family and the duty he owes his nation tear at his heart. Every step feels like walking into an abyss.
He can use a scalpel to analyze the course of battle, crack coded messages, and turn death into life.
His knowledge of science is in his very blood. In times of crisis, he leaves nothing to chance and can change the outcome of a battlefield single-handedly.
Once, he concealed his sharp edge. Now he steps forward carrying the light, turning every undercurrent into a move on his chessboard.
While others struggle in the darkness, he already has everything under control and is turning the nation's fate around.
From the bloody fires of Jinling to the smoke of war in Yan'an, he will save the people from suffering with the hands of a doctor and build a legacy that will endure for a thousand ages.
