Jiangcheng is full of the warmth and bustle of everyday life, and its pace is pleasantly unhurried. The heroine, Cen Xiaoxiao, is an elementary school Chinese teacher. She’s sweet-looking and quick-witted, and she can’t help stopping in her tracks whenever she sees a handsome man. Tall men with cold expressions are especially her weakness. One day, during a health checkup, she meets Xiao Ruiyuan, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the city’s First Hospital. He looks as if he has stepped out of an old painting. In his white coat, with his eyes lowered, his whole bearing seems to say, “Stay away.” But Cen Xiaoxiao does the exact opposite. She keeps finding excuses to visit the hospital: heart palpitations today, insomnia tomorrow, and the day after that she brings her entire class in for a health education session, all just to see him a little more. Dr. Xie seems aloof, but he’s so flustered inside he could burst into flames. She leaves him utterly unsettled, yet he doesn’t dare show it. As they trade playful banter in their everyday lives, the two slowly grow closer: one is bold and theatrical, while the other seems chaste and restrained but secretly gets jealous. Their story unfolds with ease amid the warmth of everyday life in this city. There’s no melodrama, just heartbeats and laughs aplenty.
