Trouble in Green Bamboo Village: My Neighbor Is a Ghost Officer

After graduating from university, Lin Yanci turned down a high-paying job in the city. Taking the old compass his grandfather left him and half a copy of Records of Exorcisms, he returned to his hometown, Qingzhu Village, a place so remote it was barely visible on maps. The villagers all thought he was foolish to leave a comfortable life in the city and come back to this impoverished backwater to “scrape by.” Only Lin Yanci knew why he had returned: to fulfill his grandfather’s dying wish, protect the century-old seal beneath Qingzhu Village, and uncover the truth behind his grandfather’s “accidental” death twenty years ago.

On his very first night back, Lin Yanci stumbled upon a series of strange happenings. A woman’s sobs came from the old well at the village entrance. The ruined opera stage stood empty by day, yet in the dead of night shadowy figures appeared there, singing opera. Stranger still, Su Qingyuan, a young woman living alone at the far end of the village, always seemed to “happen” to appear when he was exorcising spirits, and could accurately tell him how the ghosts had died. Her left eye could actually see the “things” invisible to ordinary people.
