In Shanghai in 1937, surgeon Shen Ruohan meets Lu Jingyuan, an underground Communist, while treating wounded patients at the hospital. Lu Jingyuan is injured while covering for his comrades, and Shen Ruohan risks everything to treat him. Afterward, Shen uses her position as a doctor to pass medicine and intelligence to the underground party, while Lu quietly protects her. As war rages around them, their feelings grow ever stronger, and together they protect their country and each other.
