A Foodie's Life with Her Sharp-Tongued Mom and Love-Obsessed Brother

“Eating is life’s top priority!” That’s the motto of Lin Xiaoman, a food writer with a discerning palate and a hearty appetite. She can read people through food, but there are two things she can’t handle: a difficult senior colleague at work, and her sharp-tongued mother, Wang Meilan, who can seamlessly switch from complaining about egg prices to pressuring her to get married. Every day in the Lin household begins with Xiaoman’s expert critique of how the eggs are fried, accompanied by her mother’s never-ending chatter. Another source of endless worry for Wang Meilan is her son, Lin Xiaoshuai, a hopeless romantic in the late stages of “love brain.” He’s handsome, but spends all his time head over heels. Every relationship is as dramatic as a TV romance, and he changes partners faster than the seasons, sending his mother’s blood pressure soaring. When Xiaoman reluctantly visits a mysterious private kitchen to save her job, she runs into Chen Shi, an aloof chef. His cooking is superb, but his background is a mystery. He and Xiaoman spar over food, and gradually he becomes the one who understands her palate best. Meanwhile, Xiaoshuai unexpectedly meets his “one true love,” Su Qing, a yoga instructor who puts reason above all else and makes him drop every old trick. But their vastly different values make it hard for them to move forward. Wang Meilan keeps close tabs on every new development in her children’s lives and steps in forcefully, making an already chaotic situation even messier. Work troubles, romantic confusion, and family clashes erupt one after another... In this lively household, arguments fly alongside affection, and teasing goes hand in hand with warmth. In the end, food brings them together. Their stubborn mother begins to learn to let go, their impulsive brother comes to understand himself through setbacks, and Xiaoman, who has always loved to run away, bravely makes her choices about career and love.
