Exorcism Archives: Shadows of the Old World

Chen Yan, an officer with the municipal criminal investigation squad, has been able to see things ordinary people cannot since childhood. A bizarre “spontaneous combustion case” shatters the peace: before dying, the victim repeatedly muttered, “The old world is coming back,” and strange runes unlike anything modern remain at the scene.

During the investigation, he meets Su Mei, a bewitching and alluring bar owner. Her smile is radiant, yet she always leaves traces, faint as a whisper, at murder scenes. Worse still, the masterminds begin to emerge one after another: a psychologically warped “Stitcher,” an obsessive and twisted “Copycat,” and the far-reaching schemer known as the “Old World Believer.” Using supernatural means to create a string of murders, they force people to choose between the ignorance of the “old world” and the order of the “new world.”

With an ancestral compass for warding off evil in hand, Chen Yan solves supernatural mysteries while maneuvering around Su Mei, who is neither wholly good nor evil. But he discovers that every murder points back to the “Old World Sacrifice” deliberately covered up twenty years ago, and that he himself has long been a key piece on the board.
