Warring for Supremacy in a Chaotic Age: The Warlord Is a Woman

In the final years of a dynasty, the Nine Provinces are divided and warlords fight for supremacy. The rigid rule that men are superior to women binds women across the land. The scholarly Chu family is exterminated for possessing secret documents from the previous dynasty. Chu Qinghuang, the family's young heiress, is rescued by a loyal servant. To survive and avenge her family, she cuts off her hair, takes the name Chu Qing, and enters the game of power in this chaotic age disguised as a man.

She gathers the family's former followers and lays a foundation in the depths of adversity. She meets Xie Xuan, a brilliant strategist born into a humble family, who devotes himself to assisting her. She also crosses paths with the fierce general Qin Lie, and through her extraordinary strategy, wins this formidable warrior over. Seizing cities, introducing reforms, and winning the people's support, Chu Qinghuang makes a name for herself among the warlords as a man, while repeatedly facing the danger of her true sex being exposed.

At the decisive battle, her identity is finally revealed, throwing the army into turmoil. She removes her armor before the troops and swears, as a woman, to "unify the realm and restore peace to the land." Xie Xuan, Qin Lie, and her other generals respond by vowing to follow her to the death. Even Yuwen Tuo, heir to an enemy state who is at once her rival and friend, is captivated by her talent. In the end, Chu Qinghuang breaks through a thousand years of tradition, unifies the realm, and ascends the throne as emperor. She establishes civil service examinations for women and ushers in an age of peace and prosperity, rewriting the fate that had confined women to the inner chambers.
