[Transmigration and a comeback] + [Buddha-demon conflict] + [Twists and conspiracies]
Lin Yue, a young man from the modern world, transmigrates into the world of Journey to the West. On the brink of death, he awakens the remnant soul of Jin Chanzi, the Tathagata's second disciple. Jin Chanzi was supposed to become a Buddha, but he discovers that Buddhism's planned “Eighty-One Tribulations” are a trap: merit is used as bait, while the power of annihilation slowly erodes his consciousness! To break free from the fate of a puppet, Jin Chanzi teaches Lin Yue a demonic cultivation method that means “keep true to your heart and defy fate.” He also attaches his remnant soul to Lin Yue's sea of consciousness, helping him seize a spiritual vein and defeat demonic cultivators at Black Wind Mountain. With the combined power of Buddha and demon, Lin Yue gets an against-the-heavens start from the very beginning.
As they travel west, layer upon layer of conspiracy is exposed:
Sun Wukong appears to be protecting Tang Sanzang on his journey to obtain the scriptures, but is actually investigating the truth behind his imprisonment beneath Five Elements Mountain. Bajie, the reincarnation of Marshal Tianpeng, turns out to be a double agent planted by the Heavenly Court. The fragments of the Glazed Lamp hidden by Sha Wujing conceal the recipe for Buddhism's “Annihilation Dew.” And with every tribulation, Jin Chanzi's consciousness grows weaker. At key points such as Eagle Sorrow Ravine, Gao Village, and Flowing Sand River, Lin Yue has no choice but to withstand Buddhist schemes with the spiritual energy of his demon core. He even forms alliances with forces such as the Queen of the Women's Country and the Bull Demon King, gradually building a faction of demonic cultivators.
The final battle takes place atop Spirit Mountain!
When the Tathagata activates the “Great Annihilation Formation,” Lin Yue leads an allied army of demonic cultivators and Heavenly Court dissenters, joining forces with Wukong, Bajie, and Sha Wujing to break the deadlock. He sneaks into the treasury and smashes the merit pearls, helping Jin Chanzi escape Tang Sanzang's body and be reborn. Then, as a quasi-sage demon lord, he forces the Tathagata to retreat and makes Buddhism promise to return the demon clans' territory. After this battle, the balance of power in Journey to the West is completely rewritten: the demon world rises, the immortals and Buddhas give ground, and whispers from an ancient demon god in the depths of the Eastern Sea foretell a new crisis…
Buddhas are not all good, and demons have feelings too!
