The Complete Guide to Avoiding Financial Risks in the Internet Age

Preface: Don't Let Your "Wallet" Go Out Bare

At the parcel lockers in her residential complex, 62-year-old Auntie Zhang stared at a pop-up on her phone: "15% annual returns, principal and interest guaranteed. Retirement investment offer, today only." Just as she was about to tap "Invest Now," a community police officer called in a panic: "It's a scam! Uncle Li lost 80,000 yuan yesterday. The platform vanished this morning." After hanging up, she felt a chill run down her back. She'd nearly handed over half a lifetime of retirement savings. Her money was like a child with no clothes on, easy prey for any scam.

She wasn't the only one feeling anxious. While watching videos, people run into "rebates for completing online orders." On WeChat, they get messages from "customer service" offering refunds. At the door, a parcel comes with a QR code promising a red packet but stealing their information. At work, a fake "boss" in the company group demands a transfer. Online financial traps are like invisible thieves hiding in everyday routines, from scrolling on your phone to commuting to work. You think you've found a bargain, but you've fallen into a trap. You think it's an official notice, but it's a scammer in disguise. You think you're doing someone a small favor, but end up taking the blame for them.

This book is for ordinary people who want to protect their money: retirees can avoid "retirement investment" and health-product scams, young people can steer clear of online loans and fake order schemes, and frontline employees can guard against workplace transfer fraud and information leaks.

We won't use financial jargon. We'll explain things with situations you can understand: comparing scams to "poison wrapped in candy" to teach you how to spot them, describing financial protection as a "burglar-proof door for your wallet" to show you how to lock it, and explaining how to recover from risks as "how to find something you've lost" to help you limit the damage.

Remember: your money shouldn't be left exposed. Learning to avoid traps isn't about being afraid of scams. It's about keeping every hard-earned penny safe in your pocket. That's the most practical kind of financial security for ordinary people.
