[Life Status]

Life's State is a monumental work of realist literature, a sweeping human epic. Rather than centering on traditional, tightly plotted linear storytelling and dramatic conflict, it takes “states of being” as snapshots and, with exquisitely delicate prose, paints a vivid portrait of everyday life in contemporary Chinese cities and the rural communities within their reach.
